Landmarks for the Expanded Field
Location: Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, FL
Exhibition: "Open Process"
Year: 2011
This work applies Rosalind Krauss’ concept of Sculpture in the Expanded Field to an imagined street grid. Each piece stands isolated on a base, alluding to non-contextual Modernist sculpture. The collection of objects creates a "field" of a topographic landscape or an architectural environment. Exhibition visitors were invited to walk through the installation, observing the details of the architectural passageways in each unit. The individual qualities of the sculptures give a new legibility to the wider field. The work imagines how sculpture can break up the impersonal qualities of the urban environment.
